Each morning, the carpenter gently bows his head in submission towards his tools. Another deeply ingrained habit is of folding hands towards his instruments at the end of the day, touching them and then swiftly taking his fingers to the eyes while muttering thanks to the powers up above for watching out for him thus far.

S H E D is a multidisciplinary design practice that thinks through making. We build to nurture movement and unbridle imagination. While function and form act as primary pillars that we design and ideate around, our true motivation lies in encapsulating memory and feeling into objects.

/ Culture

In our practice, the first intervention is through conversations: dialogue with and among different types of makers, storytellers, thinkers, doers, dreamers, observers. These then make way for tests, trials and experiments that we undertake within our quarters, inadvertently creating our own narratives first hand. Ultimately, it’s a series of physically measured additions and subtractions, all leading to the final object, space or experience.

"While I was in college at Parsons the New School for Design studying Architecture, I realized just how incomplete my education felt without this tangible and tactile sense of making with my own hands; a gap I knew I had to fill. I was convinced I had to start from the basics. One thing led to another and we ended up with collections of games, toys, furniture, all stemming from our explorations there at the basement." - Priyanka Shah
